Military EvolutionWeapons used by the military has been through a long tedious process of change and development. It's fascinating how man reaches deep within his thoughts to produce systems as defence. Over and pver again technological breakthroughs have been invaluable in military organization and equipment dictates who ends up on top. It started with clubs, rocks and spears. Development continued with bow and arrows, maces, slings, and more were first created.. Then animal-drawn carts and wagons were built that aided man in his military campaigns quests. Horses and donkeys became universally used to aid in speeding up transportation and making it generally easier to move men and equipment. This gave rise to units like the infantry, cavalry, and other auxiliary units. Great civilizations each developed their own style of troops. The Romans marched in their legions while the Greeks took considerable pride in impenetrable phalanxes. Then Atheinians called on their cavalry and again warfare moved to new levels. As military organizations changed, combined forces were developed came into life. Infantry, artillery, and the cavalry was the latest thing. Warfare next reached the seas where naval battles came into being. Engineering and architectural skills took center stage and ships of all sizes and types navigated the seven seas in the ongoing quest for military supremacy. All around the globe battleships were continually equipped with more and more devastating cannons. Then in medieval days the way was paved for the creation of genuine warriors. Fighters who inked their status in the pages of history. Some of which that we have come to know and admire are the stories of knights, samurai, and pikeman, and the artillery. The makeshift bow and arrow was refined into more advanced innovations such as the English longbows and crossbows which made serious impressions on the battlefield. Then, with the invention of gunpowder, things heated up considerably. Guns and cannons blasted their way into combat arenas. Fire ships were used to burn opponents down into the depths. Technology took the lead role in the quest for supremacy as submarines commanded the ocean depths. Comments |
